The methodology and perception around resistance training has changed over the last decade. Evolving from being heavily influenced by the health and wellness industry in relation to bodybuilding, body sculpting, and mostly aesthetic based practices which generated several misbeliefs and misconceptions around its importance, to a much broader understanding of the performance benefits of resistance training for physical health and wellbeing.
However, there are many more benefits of resistance training that are still yet to make their way into popular fitness regimes and an understanding that muscle itself, is our most important health and fitness related tissue, it is literally our armour or shield that protects our physical and mental health. This lack of understanding and the influence of the weight loss industry on the fitness industry has resulted in over indexing on the application and importance of aerobic or cardio training for both general health and wellness and weight management.
