This is the 98 Games
The inaugural 98 Games united 600 athletes nationwide for a purpose-built functional fitness competition, showcasing elite performance, community, and the high standards that define 98 Training.
The inaugural 98 Games marked a defining moment for the 98 community - a large-scale, purpose-built fitness competition that brought together athletes from every corner of Australia under one roof. Designed by 98 Training in collaboration with Ben and Lizzy Garard, the event set a new benchmark for what functional fitness competition can look like when performance, culture and professionalism come together.
Hosted inside the world-class Sydney Swans HQ, the Games welcomed 150 teams and more than 600 competitors, ranging from first-timers in the Rookie Division to some of the country’s most established professional athletes competing in the Elite Division. Across all levels, what stood out was not just the capability on the floor, but the shared commitment to teamwork, resilience and raising the standard for what great competition and sportsmanship feels like.
Each division was built with clear purpose: accessible pathways for those stepping into their first event, meaningful progression for athletes building capacity, and a truly demanding test for those operating at the highest level. The structure of the events - six workouts delivered in a 98-minute waterfall format - mirrored the programming philosophy that defines 98: simple on paper, uncompromising in execution, and grounded in real performance.
Beyond the competition floor, the event highlighted the strength of the broader 98 network. Coaches, judges, volunteers, and staff came together seamlessly, demonstrating the culture of excellence that sits at the heart of 98. The Games would not have been possible without the support of our event partners - Rogue Australia, PILLAR Performance, Concept2 Australia, REC GEN and LiveFit Nutrition - each of whom played a key role in bringing this vision to life with integrity and precision.
The inaugural 98 Games was more than a competition. It was a statement of intent: to build a platform that elevates athletes, celebrates community, and sets a new standard within the Australian fitness landscape.
Planning for the 2026 98 Games is already underway - and we intend to raise the bar again.
Onwards and upwards.

400 competitors walked into the Royal Hall of Industries on Saturday and left having been part of something designed to feel bigger than just another fitness competition. The second edition of the 98 Games was built around pairs - two athletes, a single goal, every effort making a difference - and what unfolded across the day made a strong case that this format brings out the best in people.
